Lunar New Year – The Year of the Rabbit

January 23-27, 2023

Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring. People focus on family and good luck. They eat special foods for luck, health and wealth including fish, oranges, long noodles and dumplings. Legend tells of a monster, Nian, that attacked villages. Each year people scare it away with loud noises, fire and the color red.

The Lunar New Year begins on a new moon and ends on the full moon with the Lantern Festival.
