Ready to Help? Get Cleared to Volunteer!

Thank you for volunteering at Meadowlark.
Volunteers like you are the heart of our thriving community!

The safety of every student is our top priority, and part of keeping them safe is knowing exactly who is in our building at all times. Your support helps us create a secure and welcoming environment where kids can focus on what matters most — learning and growing.

At Meadowlark, everyone needs to complete a BVSD-specific Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check with fingerprints in order to volunteer in the building, chaperone field trips, or work with students. This page will help guide you through the process…and once you are done, you will be ready to volunteer for the next five years. (But no pressure, really.)

Important note: Once you’ve completed your fingerprinting appointment, it can take anywhere between a couple days to several weeks for BVSD to receive the results. We recommend starting the process now even if you don’t know how you want to volunteer yet.

  1. Alert the district that you are applying to volunteer using this BVSD Volunteer Application Submission Alert. (If you have questions about the form click here for some tips.)

  2. Complete a CBI Background Check through www.coloradofingerprinting.com.
  • Start by creating an account and selecting “Place New Order.” You do not have a billing code.
  • Tip: This location generally has flexible hourse/days when scheduling:
    • Express It Mail Center (near Longmont Costco)
205 Ken Pratt Blvd Ste. 120, Longmont, CO 80501
  • These are the correct codes to use when making your appointment:
    • Why do you need to get fingerprinted? CO Licensure/Employment CABS
    • Reason Fingerprinted: ED – Non-licensed-Sch District 22-32-109 8
    • CBI Unique Code: 5085ETNI
    • Confirm the payment and you are all set!
  • Be on the lookout for an email titled “CABS Fingerprints Processed Successfully” – this means you passed. Hooray! After a day or two to allow for district “synching,” you should be able to check in with the front office and confirm you are on their list of approved volunteers (and get the special Volunteer nametag!).
  • If you’d like us to help you keep track of when you are due for your next background check (who’s really going to remember in five years??), forward a copy of that confirmation email to volunteer@mavsptsa.org as well.

FAQs

  • How much does this cost?
With fees, the cost of a CBI background check is about $65. We realize it can be annoying to have to pay money to volunteer your time, but it feels better when you know it’s averaged out over five years! If you would like to volunteer and the cost is a barrier, there are funds set aside to help. Just email meadowlark.volunteer@bvsd.org and ask about financial assistance (this will go to the front office admin).
  • What about Raptor background checks? Are they a thing anymore?
Raptor background checks are still used by BVSD, but they are only for line-of-sight volunteers. Because of Meadowlark’s layout and the flow of students and staff, it’s difficult to guarantee supervision of volunteers, so our school has decided to exclusively use the CBI background checks to keep volunteering simple, safe, and stress-free.
  • I’ve been background checked for a bazillion other reasons. Does that count?
Sadly, there is no ability to transfer your other background check. Part of this is because different organizations include different things in their investigation report. The only exception is if you are an active BVSD employee who has done a CBI background check for your position. (We can’t even take SVVSD employee background checks. I know.)
  • Can I volunteer even if I don’t have a social security number?
Yes, if you are trying to complete a background check without a valid social security number, please contact Vivian Campbell, HR Manager, at 720-561-5259 or at vivian.campbell@bvsd.org.
